The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has accused former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai of squandering state funds at the mess of the state. Tsvangirai acquired a mansion in Highlands during his tenure as PM at a value of $1,5 million. he has refused to pay back the $1.5 million he received from RBZ as a PM. however, Tsvangirai spokesperson Luke Tamborunyoka escribed the developments as "preposterous and defamatory" claims by Marondera East MP Jeremiah Chiwetu of Zanu PF that the MDC leader received $3 million from RBZ to buy his Highlands mansion.
Tamborunyoka also added that the development is a desperate attempt to equalize the doyen of the democratic struggle in Zimbabwe for those who benefited from the quasi-fiscal activities of the RBZ. The quasi-fiscal policy included the provision of tractors , scotch carts and farming inputs. the development has not only caused division within the main opposition party but also has also stirred debate on whether the political elite are ever considerate of the plight
